Elaine Ballou Obituary

Elaine (Keenan) Ballou, 91, of North Smithfield, died February 27, 2026.   She was the wife of Roger Ballou, whom she married November 23, 1957. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Myra (Cook) Keenan.

Elaine graduated from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She was employed by Zambarano Memorial Hospital for over twenty years retiring in 1996 as the RN night supervisor. She previously worked at the former Lying In Hospital in Providence for 16 years. After her retirement, Elaine continued to expand her crocheting skills. Her creations were extremely popular with her family as well as members of the St Paul’s Church community. She commonly donated her items for a variety of church activities and fundraisers.

She is survived by three children, Martha Roberts, wife of the late Richard Roberts, Roger Ballou and his wife Rhoda, and Jennifer Duhamel and her husband John;  six grandchildren, Christopher Roberts and his wife Jessica, Katherine Morin, Thomas Strange, Jo-Anne Duhamel, Ryan Ballou and his fiancée Kelly Gardner, and Justine Scoran and her husband Troy; two great-grandchildren, Sophie Roberts, and Noah Morin as well as her sister, Mary Ryan of Millville, MA. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Joseph and John Keenan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Divine Mercy Church (previously known as St Paul’s), Blackstone, MA on Friday, March 6 at 1pm. Inurnment will be private at a later date in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Divine Mercy Church, 48 St. Paul Street, Blackstone, MA 01504. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket.
