Irene (LeDuc) Gelinas, 96, of Charlestown, RI, passed away surrounded by her family on April 2, 2024 in The Holiday Retirement Home, Manville. She was the wife of the late Leo B. Gelinas, whom she married on November 29, 1947. Born in Woonsocket, RI, where she lived most her life, she was the daughter of the late Pierre and Vitaline (Bergeron) LeDuc.
In her younger years, Irene worked in the Woonsocket mills and later in life at Donnelly Manufacturing. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, loved her poodles and surrounded herself by her large family. She and Leo enjoyed a wonderful 54 year marriage dedicated to helping others and they were actively involved with the Senior Center in Woonsocket. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, water aerobics and exercise classes. She loved music and was an avid line dancer. She also liked to cruise and travel with her husband and family. Irene enjoyed living in both Charlestown, RI and Mashpee, MA over the past 25 years.
She leaves her three daughters, Pauline Rzewuski of Charlestown, Lorraine Michaud and her husband, Mark, of Mashpee, MA, and Charlene Gelinas of Harrisville; five grandchildren, Daniel Rzewuski and his wife Cindy of Charlestown, Aimee Fish and her husband, Bill, of Chazy, NY, Joshua Lussier and his partner, Michelle Oberg, of Woonsocket, Dakota Lussier of Harrisville and his companion, Brittney Simard, of Woonsocket, and Hunter Lussier of Harrisville; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; many close nieces and nephews; and her friend and companion for the last 12 years, James Harrington of Mashpee, MA. She also leaves behind Michael J. Rzewuski of Pawtucket and Wayne Lussier of Harrisville. She was predeceased by her 2 brothers Emile and Horace and 7 sisters Florence (her Godmother), Lillian, Agnes, Doris, Theresa, Anna and Beatrice.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Holiday Nursing Home - Watch Hill 2 wing. The family is filled with gratitude for the attentive and loving care she received. It will always be remembered and appreciated. A heartfelt appreciation also goes to the Hope Hospice staff for their caring and dedication.
Irene’s services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 beginning with visitation at 9 AM, followed by a service at 10 AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 S. Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Hope Hospice, 1085 N. Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
